In February 2016 in Haxby, a quiet residential area on the outskirts of York, a fatal explosion caused catastrophic damage to a detached home and severe damage to the surrounding houses.

Left with nothing but a pile of rubble where the house once stood, and a dozen further homes in the area affected, AOC Demolition were contacted by the site to accompany forensic teams to help establish the cause of the blast, which was later determined as a fractured gas pipe.

Our skilled machine operatives carefully removed the layers of debris, and respectfully cleared the blast site which had devastated the local community. The adjacent properties were then deemed unstable by structural engineers, which led to our team being further appointed to facilitate the demolition and site clearance of the entire area, leaving foundations ready for the properties to be reconstructed.

Despite the upsetting nature of what happened at the site, we were proud to have been part of the process in allowing the residents to begin the journey of rebuilding their homes, and their lives, by providing a solid foundation to start again

We attended an  emergency call out to a two story block of flats in Heywood, following a horrific gas explosion which rendered the structure hugely unsafe to the surrounding public and area. Whilst the majority of the damage occurred at the front of the flats, smashed windows and burn marks could also be seen along the side of the property, as well as furniture and belongings seen scattered across the floor. AOC worked closely with building control and the accident investigation team to carefully ‘make safe the structure’ enabling nearby road and footpaths to be reopened as normal without any risk to the public. After structural investigations were concluded, AOC completed demolition works efficiently and within their time scale of just three weeks, including most of the roof and the remaining front wall of the first floor flat being removed. The highly professional team used their expertise to minimise any further disruption and all works were executed with due care and respect for the sensitive residential area surrounding them.
